Mumbai lacks adequate rehabilitation centers and as such, Dr. Bhawana Kerkar decided that providing safe and easy access to disabled students was much-needed for students in all income levels. Umang Charitable Trust works to provide remedial services to children with learning disabilities and autism, irrespective of their religion, caste or financial background. Umang adopts a positive child-centric approach to achieve their mission and goal of rehabilitating economically disadvantaged children with special needs. Umang Charitable Trust runs a successful school at Kandivali, a special education program at a BMC school in a North Mumbai suburb (Borivali) and with PaperSeed funds has now been able to open a second school in Bhayander East, Mumbai.
