Child Health and Safety: Pedro's Davila School

Pedro's Davila School, a public school in the community of La Comarca Cedro Galan, was founded in 1968 as a primary school, with an initial enrollment of 80 students. In 2000, it school grew to include a secondary school, with a current enrollment of308 students. The school had very basic facilities, and there were a number of health and safety concerns for the students.

Partnering with Kimberly-Clark in Central America CSR, PaperSeed worked to improve the safety and security of children attending. Together, our goal was to transform the learning environment by providing safe and clean classrooms, and health knowledge to reduce illness.

In the first stage of improvements, a wall was constructed around the perimeter of the school, bathrooms were reconstructed, the classrooms were repainted and fitted with new doors and windows, and now the students receive educational health talks (the necessity of hand washing, for example). The project was successfully completed in spring of 2014
