Location: Santa Lucía la Reforma, Choalímon, Paxan and Guatluc, Guatemala.

Goal: To strengthen non-formal education through music and sports for Guatemalan children in public schools.
In Santa Lucia la Reforma, Totonicapan, Fe y Alegría has eight elementary schools, each features two teachers from grades one through six. In total, 700 indigenous students who speak Quiche, the local language, are learning Spanish as a second language and studying for a brighter future. In 2004, PaperSeed built music rooms in Santa Lucía la Reforma, Choalímon, Paxan and Guatluc. In 2006, after recognizing the the community’s need for a safe area for children to play, the Foundation built several playgrounds.
Name: El Mezquital School
Location: El Mezquital, Guatemala
Time/Duration: 1995 – 1998
Goal: To strengthen non-formal education through music and sports for Guatemalan children in public schools.
Fe y Alegría started a one-classroom school in 1976. After In 20 years, the school served 1,400 students, from kindergarten to junior high school.
PaperSeed joined forces with Fe y Alegría in 1995. The organization’s very first project was to bring music into the lives of underprivileged students; thanks to the Foundation, three teachers provided music classes to 1,650 students. The school orchestra participates in national competitions and often plays at local festivities. Today the original music room has become the center of communal life; it is kept and maintained by the local community.
